Abstract
The Orman family have been well-known donors of historical items to the Colorado State University of Pueblo Archives and Special Collections over the years. Most notably the Orman Collection of Native American Artifacts, 600-1930 which houses two hundred various artifacts. They include Navajo rugs, Pueblo pottery, and a group of Jicarilla and Western Apache baskets. The Orman family also assembled a collection of diaries and scrapbooks filled with a variety of photographs and documents. Some of these documents date to the 1800s. The diaries can be dated back to the year 1916. These line-of-day diaries documented not only family matters, but social and political issues of the time. The Orman Family Papers had been accumulating for generations. They include information on the activities of various family members and individuals ranging from former Colorado Governor James B. Orman to Ella Matty Orman. The papers even include activities of former Colorado Governor Alva Adams.
Scope and Contents of the Materials
The collection consists of family scrapbooks, diaries, photographs and rare books. It also includes various government publications. These records extensively document various family matters and travels as well as social and political issues of the time. This collection ranges in dates from 1818-1985.
Biographical Note

- The Orman family had documented their lives through out the generations with Line-A-Day Books by Ella Matty Orman for 53 years between 1916 through 1968. - This series consists of two articles of clothing that belonged to one Frederick Braley Orman Jr. (1914-1983).

- This item includes detailed imformation on individual artifacts from the Orman Collection of Native American Art which was donated to the Colorado State Univserity of Pueblo Archives and Special Collections in the late 2000's. Photos and supporting documents are included in the portfolio.
- Series 5: Delicate and Damaged, 1902-1947
- These additional scrapbooks were found in a warehouse in Shreveport Louisiana 2021; new owners of the warehouse were cleaning out the complex of any items left behind. The scrapbooks have suffered water damage and are extremely delicate. Please, exercise caution when handling these items (i.e., use gloves and if necessary a face mask). The scrapbooks contains photographs and documents that are likewise extremely delicate and damaged. These scrapbooks were part of a second donation in the Spring of 2022 by the Cathy Orman Castille family.
