Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of papers, photographs and printed materials relating to the activities of Chicano activist Louis 'Lugs' Garcia.

Collection Historical Note

Louie 'Lugs' Garcia was born July 21, 1933, in Rifle, Colorado and died on January 20, 2008 in Pueblo, Colorado.  Garcia was a Chicano activist in Pueblo, Colorado. A one-time Brown Beret, he campaigned for the rights of farm workers, bilingual education and organized the cleanup of the Salt Creek barrio area of Pueblo.
